EpiTrax
Our flagship application, EpiTrax is our integrated disease surveillance system. This robust user interface is for case management and investigation by epidemiologists. EpiTrax supports public health jurisdictions in receiving electronic laboratory reporting (ELR) and electronic case reporting (eCR). These messages from health care providers and laboratories are processed by Electronic Message Standardization and Automation application (EMSA) according to rules that ensure public health has the information as soon as it is received. Data is received directly from EMSA and is used in this person-centric platform for whole person case investigation. This platform is highly customizable, not only to the Public Health Authority but also to the user.
Person Centric
EpiTrax is person centric. A case is a single instance or morbidity. Cases are organized by individual person. Each person has a CMR or Confidential Morbidity Report. Unlimited cases can be assigned to each CMR allowing for a epidemiologist to see a whole person history in one record. Cases and CMRs can also be easily transferred from one local health department to another when needed.
User Driven Experience
Each user can customize their own user view to meet their needs while still maintaining the integrity of the jurisdictions workflows and policies. These customization options are designed to present each user with the information they need first and foremost. Landing pages and the events tab are set up per individual user to facilitate efficient and directed investigation.
Locally Owned
Every Public Health Authority (PHA) that uses the PHAST suite, hosts and operates their own individual instance of the software sutie. Each PHA completely controls their own local customization.
EpiTrax has customizable disease investigation forms that can be changed to meet the needs of the jurisdiction and their unique popualtion and workflows. Local Health Departments can even create their own forms separate from a larger state or territorial instance if the need arises.
PHAs control user roles and controls. You can create your own roles with whatever control and access is needed. Any system administrator can create a role to fill a need. User views are limited to only the conditions allowed by their role.
Conditions are customizable. Use it for what you need it for. Some users of EpiTrax have over 250 conditions active in the application. Others are onboarding at their own pace and use it for just for a handful of conditions. It is designed to meet your needs, whatever they are.
Nationally Grown
The PHAST suite is all open-source. It can be difficult to maintain open-source software when anyone is free to take the code and do what they want with it. How do we maintain an open-source suite of software on a national scale? The Consortium! The PHAST Consortium is the community of practice for users of our surveillance tools. We operate using a structured governance model that provides the framework for Consortium driven development that is by public health, for public health. Each Public Health Authority (PHA) that has an active instance of one of our tools and has signed our Contributor License Agreement, gets to appoint a voting member for their jurisdiction. Only public health authorities get to vote. Every single bit of code that is contributed has to be voted on by these designated members and approved in order to be added to the main code branch. Once a new feature has been added, then each PHA pulls down the updates to their own instance. This allows us to maintain a central code repository while providing local control. This is why we say, we are locally owned and nationally grown.
User Driven Exports
EpiTrax has user driven data exporting capability. When an export is created, it respects the permissions of the individual running it. This allows the user to pull data that respects their individual perspective without overlapping conditions or jurisdictional lines. These exports can also be automated to run whenever and placed wherever you want. For example, one of our member PHAs, Utah, has automated come of their reports to be regularly pulled and placed in a folder where they have designed an R script to pull it from that location and update their public facing dashboards.
